Davis Performing Arts Center Tour

GTA and the Department of Performing Arts hosted a tour of the state-of-the-art Royden B. Davis, S.J. Performing Arts Center, the new Village C theater, and other performing arts spaces on campus. Alumni were able to see how the performing arts programs and facilities at Georgetown have grown and evolved since their time on the Hilltop, and got the chance to meet other Georgetown theatre alumni.

Homecoming Reception

The Georgetown Theatre Alliance, along with the Department of Performing Arts, welcomed all alumni to gather for drinks and conversation after the tailgate on Saturday. Reconnect with old friends and meet some current Georgetown students in the lobby of the Davis Performing Arts Center. The reception is free and open to all!

DPAC Sweet 16 Celebration

8-10 April 2022

The Theater & Performance Studies Program hosted a 3-day celebration to mark the 16th (technically 17th) anniversary of the Davis Performing Arts Center. The weekend included social events, workshops, panel discussions, and a cabaret performance.

 

Reunion Weekend Gathering

SAVE THE DATE for a happy hour co-hosted by the Georgetown Theatre Alliance and TPST over Reunion Weekend! On Friday, March 18th at 5:30pm, we plan to gather for a happy hour to celebrate the Georgetown theatre community. All are welcome - whether you are in town for reunion or just looking for an excuse to spend time with Georgetown theatre friends. The first round of drinks will be on us!!
 
After the happy hour, please join us as we head to the Kennedy Center for a performance of "We Hear You - A Climate Archive," produced by the Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics, and featuring the work of many Georgetown theatre alumni. The performance begins at 7:00pm.

DPAC Tour & Anniversary Celebration

Join the Theater & Performance Studies program, as well as GTA, for a gathering to celebrate the 16th Anniversary of the Davis Performing Arts Center opening at Georgetown. Refreshments will be served at 1:00 PM, with tours of the building offered at 1:30 PM and 2:00 PM. There will also be the change to chat with TPST faculty and share memories of your time at Georgetown.

Workshop Performance of Murder/Suicide

17 November 2021

In this witty, dark comedy, playwright Sean Craig (COL '16) hosts the eternal debate between life and death, waged like you've never seen before. Directed by Andrew Walker (SFS '16), with dramaturgy by Kate Clark (COL '22), the cast included Caleb Lewis (COL '16) and Thea Belle Flanzer (COL '24). The performance was followed by a virtual reception.

Tam Lin and Other Journeys

In a series of expanded retellings of traditional British ballads, playwright Taylor Rasmussen (COL ‘16) explores the unspoken truths hidden in these songs. Touching on questions of loyalty, queer love, and otherness, Tam Lin and Other Journeys invites the audience to join the journey of perpetual becoming we’re all asked to go on. Directed by Mar Cox (COL ‘16) and featuring alumni and student performers, this virtual staged reading showcased the expressive range of the Georgetown community.

A Christmas Carol

5 December 2020

GTA and Mask and Bauble coproduced a virtual production of A Christmas Carol. In a new spin on a campus tradition, alumni and students from across the Georgetown theatre community came together to perform this Christmas classic. Directed by Hannah Miller (COL '23), with sound design by Sean Craig (COL '16) and media design by Toby Clark, alumni from the 1980s through the 2020s joined with current students to share some holiday cheer.

Shakespeare and Shots!

In a new twist on GTA's traditional homecoming festivities, we hosted slightly-tipsy reading of one of the Bard's best works. Members brought their own beverages and enjoyed a celebration of the one of history's best combinations: good theatre and a good drink. As they say in Macbeth, "Drink sir, is a great provoker of three things...nose-painting, sleep and...Georgetown theatre fellowship." (Or at least that's how we remember the quote).

COVID-19 Virtual Programming

April - August 2020

As artists everywhere grappled with the impact of the current global health crisis on the performing arts and many people found themselves distanced from friends and family, GTA hosted a series of all-virtual events to provide the Georgetown community a place to gather and share. These events included a pair of open mic nights and a Georgetown-themed trivia night. GTA plans to continue hosting virtual programming until the global health situation allows safe, in-person gatherings again.

The Georgetown Theatre Alliance and the Theater & Performance Studies Program hosted an Alumni Night Reception celebrating the work of current students, faculty, and alumni from across the Georgetown Theatre community! The Department of Performing Arts unveiled a new plaque in honor of Donn B. Murphy, long-time advisor to the student theatre groups on campus, and Donn was on hand to join in the celebration. Mask & Bauble also honored Donn at several events throughout the weekend.

After catching up with fellow alumni, attendees saw performances of The Donn B. Murphy One Acts Festival featuring Marblehead, MA by Amelia Walsh (SFS ‘20) in Poulton Hall, On the Lawn co-directed by Caitlin Cassidy (COL ‘11) with dramaturgy by Robert Duffley (COL'13) and Miranda Hall (COL'11) in the Gonda Theatre, or Remember This: The Lesson of Jan Karski co-written by Clark Young (COL ‘09) and stage managed by Michael Donnay (COL ‘16) in Gaston Hall.

GTA Cocktail Reception

Toby Clark, the current technical advisor to co-curricular theatre, generously opened his home to all GTA alums for a cocktail reception. Over a dozen alumni gathered over home-brewed beer and delicious appetizers. It was a great chance to get off-campus and take a break from a hectic weekend of homecoming festivities!

Georgetown theatre alumni and current students met in New York City for a happy hour and a selection from a new play being developed by LubDub Theatre, a company co-founded by Georgetown alumna Caitlin Cassidy (C '11).

The Georgetown Theatre Alliance, in collaboration with Mask & Bauble, nomadictheatre and the Theater & Performance Studies program, hosted an Alumni Reception following the performances of Speech & Debate and Seph. There was wine and cheese in the Gonda Theatre lobby after the show and a chance for students and alumni to get to know each other.

Our Class Alumni Dinner

To celebrate the faculty-directed show in the TPST 2018-2019 season Friends Far & Near, alumni from across Georgetown theatre and faculty from the TPST program came together for a pre-show lobby dinner of Georgetown neighborhood fare before a performance of Our Class, restaged by Professor Derek Goldman with an ensemble cast and stage management team of current students and alumni, designed by some of the same artistic collaborators from the critically acclaimed 2012 Theater J production.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Davis Performing Arts Center, theatre alumni from the TPST program returned to campus for a night of revels and reminiscence.
